side-business-grow2   You started your wedding business because you have a passion for what you do.  The saying made famous by the clothing brand, Life Is Good, comes to mind: “Do what you like, what what you do.”  The idea of setting your own hours, creating your own goods and services to sell, and being in control all sounded appealing, didn’t they?  So you setup shop…created (or paid someone to) a website, bought some business cards off Vistaprint and VIOLA!  A business is born.  Soon you realized you need to learn more about actually running a business, so you sign up for a few newsletters, or bought some books.  Harmless, right?

Today, information is more accessible than ever.  There are endless options on endless sites for every aspect of your life out there:

…and now your head is spinning.

Everything you come across says “you must do this or else you’ll fail.”  This article tells you to do this, but another blog post says that the opposite is the way to go.  How do you know?  The little voices inside your head start talking to you at this point.  You begin to drown in INFORMATION OVERLOAD.

Yes, I am one of them for you.  I am telling you weekly about ways to improve your business, generate more leads, make more money and run your business like a business (not a hobby).  You may not know me from Adam, but you know I have “been there, done that” with over 1,000 brides so far, that I still work in my flower shop every day and I practice what I preach.  So hopefully, what I am telling you is worth your investment of time to listen to.

So without furhter ado, here is my weekly advice to you:

THREE STEPS TO DE-CLUTTER YOUR INFORMATION OVERLOAD: 

Step 1:  Get Organized     Schedule your business activities:  Only check your email three times a day (9am; Noon; 7pm) and stick to it.  Only look at Facebook once a day (unless you are running a campaign and then I would check twice; once in the morning and once in the early evening to see results).  Log in to your bank account and do your bookkeeping every Wednesday at 10am.  Dedicate one hour a week to meeting with another wedding pro.  Read business-related articles from 8-9 every night.  Open consultation times are 10am-2pm and 4pm-8pm daily.  These are just examples and yours will vary, but the point is get organized so your days run smoother and you accomplish more.

Step 2:  Create a Business Strategy     and focus on sales (but don’t ignore your business health!).  This is different from a business plan; this isn’t what you are presenting to a bank for a loan.  This is your nitty-gritty, cause-and-effect plan of action so you have things to do in your organized day.  This is the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of your business.  How many brides do you need to book?  How many do you need to meet with in order to meet your booking goal?  How are you going to find these brides?  How often?  So on and so on.  The Business ShapeUp! 2016 is teaching this exact topic —CLICK HERE For more information.  The course is FREE and begins the week of November 2nd!!

Step 3:  Keep Yourself Healthy     Each rejection is one closer to a “YES,” but it doesn’t always feel that way.  Even when you feel discouraged, this is when you need to work hardest on your business and yourself.  Drink plenty of water.  Exercise the stress away.  Meditate.  Do yoga.  Enjoy some veggies and fruit.  Eat a Hershey’s kiss (but NOT the entire bag!!) or drink a mug of warm hot chocolate to indulge a bit.  Your mind will be clearer so you can focus on the success of your business and your body will thank you for it, too.
